My classmate the good neighbour

Students can now nominate their peers who have performed kind acts in the neighbourhood, for the Good Neighbour Award (GNA) 2010.

Launched last year, the award recognises residents who, through simple acts of kindness and consideration, contributed to building a better neighbourhood for all. This year, a new Student Category has been introduced, to inculcate good social and neighbourly behaviour amongst the young.

Primary and secondary school students living in HDB estates who displayed gracious neighbourly acts can be nominated for the award. Schools are also encouraged to organise activities related to GNA, and those that submit the most number of nominations would be recognised.

But adults have not been forgotten either. To encourage greater participation, residents can now nominate neighbours who live within the same constituency. Previously, they could only nominate neighbours from the same RC zone.

Nominations for GNA 2010 will be opened to end September. Forms are available online and at all Branch Offices, RC Centres, and Community Clubs. Students may pick up the forms from their school. Recipients of the award will be announced in November.

GNA is organised by Housing Development Board, People’s Association, and supported by SKM and Singapore Press Holdings.
