Singapore, 31 October 2022 – Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) today announced that nominations for Singapore’s Friendly Neighbourhood Award (SFNA) are now officially open. With nominations ending on 31 January 2023, residents of various housing types such as HDB flats, executive condominiums (ECs), and private housing and condominiums can nominate their favourite block(s), estates, and streets which have displayed exemplary neighbourliness. Nominations can be submitted digitally via the following link: SFNA Nomination Form.
A first of its kind, Singapore’s Friendly Neighbourhood Award recognises the collective strength, kinship and resilience within neighbourhoods, communities, streets or estates. This award organised by SKM together with the Housing & Development Board (HDB), People’s Association (PA), Municipal Services Office (MSO) and SG Cares promotes the ‘kampung spirit’ and showcases real-life stories of gracious living, resilience and the importance of kinship among neighbours to foster a more cohesive and united Singapore. A plaque will recognise all awarded blocks/estates to declare them a friendly block/estate.
General Secretary of SKM Dr William Wan said, “Singapore’s Friendly Neighbourhood Award recognises the collective strength and kinship shown within neighbourhoods. When neighbours are empathetic and caring towards one another, it builds resilience in the neighbourhood and that’s the kampung spirit we wish to highlight. I am grateful to our agency partners for their incredible support. We look forward to receiving these nominations and sharing meaningful stories of gracious living and acts of kindness from their local communities”.
HDB’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Estate), Mr Mike Chan said, “We are happy to partner with the Singapore Kindness Movement in this inaugural launch of the Singapore’s Friendly Neighbourhood Award (SFNA). Beyond providing quality and affordable homes for Singaporeans, HDB also strives to foster strong neighbourly ties and build cohesive communities in HDB towns, together with like-minded partners like SKM. Through this award, we hope to recognise residents who have made a difference to their community through acts of kindness and graciousness and celebrate the “kampung spirit” in our HDB heartlands.”
